I have two labs that walk every day through our neighborhood and are well behaved.
The dogs know where they can go and how far they can roam.
They were trained with various techniques but they listen and that is most important. If you live in a neighborhood like mine where there are many dogs of all breeds and sizes, it is important that your dogs are trained to listen.
These dogs have the freedom to run without the leash and that makes it easier for me and the dogs.
The dogs are completely different personalities. The younger lab named Roux ix four years old and runs allover the place.
Finn is almost nine but he has always been more calm and he stops more often to smell everything. He cuts corners to catch up and knows exactly when we are nearing the end of out three mile walk.
They both where training collars but I rarely have to use them unless they see a cat or a squirrel and even then if I see them first, I tell them "No" and they stop and leave the other animal alone.
I never let them out without supervision even if they are in the front yard playing with some of the neighbors dogs.
If they get with the other dogs and you don't watch them they will soon be swimming in the bayou at the end of the street.
Train them well and feed them well and you will enjoy them more and you will both be happier.
