Train Your Kids to Make the Right Choice

Todd Hicks
Are you raising kids or planning to? If so, it is your duty to steer your kids in the right direction. You will learn how to raise your children to make good decisions.

The first thing you should do is encourage them to practice morality. You must help them determine how to generally distinguish right from wrong.

Another thing you must do is develop your kids into thinkers. Tell them to always think things over before doing or saying anything.

It is important to help them understand there is always a big risk behind any action someone might want to carry out. Tell them, "If you commit a crime, there is a high chance you will be caught. You never know when a hidden surveillance camera or eyewitness is watching you. Furthermore, the police use fingerprints, DNA testing and other technological methods to solve crimes."

Train your children to always control their anger. Tell them, "If others call you names, ignore them. If you retaliate by hitting them, you could go to jail for assault, get beaten up or get killed."

Help your kids form a mental picture of the fate that awaits their choice. Tell them to keep in mind the consequences they have suffered for their mistakes as well as punishments others have received for their sins.

It is vital to set a good example for them. You can do this by always doing the right thing.

Let your background be an educational tool. Tell your children about the mistakes you have made.

Get them into the habit of reading and obeying signs. Tell them, "Pay attention to every sign that is posted wherever you go. Do not enter an area if there is a sign that says 'No Trespassing'."

Train your kids to be wise with their money. Encourage them to save some of what they earn and cut down on unnecessary spending.

Help them realize they cannot do everything on their own. Teach them to ask or call for help when they are in a bind.

Train them to consider what might be at stake in their encounters with others. Inform them they should consider whether doing or saying something in particular will cause physical or emotional harm to themselves or others before doing it. Tell them they must forever cease doing anything that brings them physical or emotional discomfort.

They must respect others' privacy. Tell them to knock before opening doors to rooms others are in.

Finally, they must avoid making life-shortening decisions. Teach them to not smoke, drink, or mess with illegal drugs.

Follow these steps to help your children make good choices!
