Released on October 26, 2009, Train's latest hit, 'Hey, Soul Sister,' from their 'Save Me, San Francisco' album has generated countless hours of play time online but very little air time on the radio, so far. How come? It's certainly not from lack of exposure. Pat Monahan and his Train have been making appearances on both daytime and nighttime television.
CSI NY and Train Collide
On December 16, 2009, Pat Monahan made his television acting debut as Sam Baker on an episode of CSI NY entitled 'Second Chances.' Midway through the episode Pat and his Train performed their latest hit single, Hey, Soul Sister. The episode also guest starred Vanessa Minnillo as Grace Chandler, Kim Kardashian as Debbie Fallon, and Train. Pat had a starring role opposite Kim playing a reformed homeless person given a second chance at life. Kim and Vanessa plot to kill Pat and collect on the million dollar insurance policy they took out on him. The episode closed with Train performing another of their hit singles, 'Calling All Angels.'
Train on Lopez Tonight and Ellen Degeneres
On January 25, 2010 Train performed 'Hey, Soul Sister' on Lopez Tonight, and on February 5, 2010, they performed 'Hey, Soul Sister' on the Ellen Degeneres Show. Anyone who's seen Train perform live will attest to the fact that they put on a great show and have a ball doing it!
Train's Story
The band, originally made up of Pat Monahan, Rob Hotchkiss, Charlie Colin, Jimmy Stafford, Scott Underwood, and Johnny Colt, got together in San Fransisco in 1994 but couldn't get a record label to represent them. In the late 90's, Train began touring the country and opening for top bands like Counting Crows and Barenaked Ladies, and eventually acquired a respectable fan-base.
In 1998, Columbia Records declined to sign a contract with Train. They managed to raise the money themselves and personally financed their debut album for $25,000.00, aptly naming it Train. The album went platinum and produced three hit singles, 'Free,' 'Meet Virginia,' and 'I Am.' Eventually Columbia Records signed them to the smaller, lesser known label, Aware Records.
To date, they have released several albums including Train, One and a Half, Drops of Jupiter, My Private Nation, Alive At Last, For Me, It's You, and their latest, and autobiographical album, Save Me, San Francisco.
