When I first started working out and wanted to compete in NPC competitions, I chose a personal trainer to help me with my goals. Three personal trainers later, I found out what I was looking for in a personal trainer, if I ever hired one again.
When you are searching for a personal trainer to help you with your goals, there are certain traits to look for.
Experience: When searching for a personal trainer to hire, you will want a personal trainer that has the right experience. Are you looking for a trainer that knows the in's and out's of competing in bodybuilding? Is he or she nationally educated by an accredited program? Do you want a trainer that is an expert in obesity or a trainer that will assist in your healthy weight gaining efforts? These are some questions you need to ask yourself when seeking a personal trainer.
Reputation: You will want a trainer that has a good reputation. Not necessarily going so far into his or her personal persona, but a personal trainer that doesn't just guarantee results, someone that will motivate you and someone who will help you get the results you seek.
Gender: Now this is a simple thing to choose when searching for a personal trainer. Yes, gender is such a surface trait, but it is a big deal for some. Are you comfortable with a male or female trainer? Remember, you are hiring this person. You have to make sure that the personal trainer is going to be someone you are comfortable with.
Personality: Most people can get the "feel" of a person's vibe in a matter of minutes (although it can take longer for others). When searching for a personal trainer you will want to get a "feel" for what type of personality you can work well with. Now, no one will get along with everyone all the time, but, if you can get along with someone most of the time (that someone being your personal trainer), the synergy between you and your trainer will assist not only your comfort level while training, but can assist in maximizing your fitness goals.
Hiring the right personal trainer for you is extremely important. Knowing if your potential trainer is knowledgeable, good at what he or she does, and is someone that you can work well with are important in order to accomplish the fitness goals you desire to attain.
