If you have never gone to a tea house before you must give it a try. It's not at all like the jazzy feel a coffee house has, it's more sophisticated. You get a tailored service for you enjoyment. You first must start by making a reservation. Not all tea houses require this but Tranquili Tea is so busy a reservation is required most of the time. Set a side some time since a tea party usually is not a quick meal, although the time will fly.
At tranquility you have the choice to dress up if you like. I don't mean in your Sunday best, they have boa's and hats to adorn you at your tea party. Just like you did as a little girl. After putting on your attire you are seated and can choose your tea service. There are several to choose from.
I suggest the Princess Tea for those that are new. It is the basic tea service that offers you a true sampling of proper English Tea. This service comes with your own personal pot of tea, which you may switch as many times as you like. I usually have three to four teas while I am there and yes I usually leave floating. This tea service also has a three tier server that includes finger sandwiches, scones with lemon curd and clotted cream available. They both sound gross but are actually delicious. It also comes with four types of desserts. Included in the Princess Tea is a main dish as well. It is your choice of soup or salad, although I have been there on days that they offer a quiche as well.
The service at Tranquili Tea is top notch. They are very personable and always checking your tea to make sure it is not empty. The tea comes on a self warming stand so it never goes cold. The price is extremely fair at only $15 for the Princess Service which includes tip. This is one of the main reasons it gets my vote as Best Tea Room.
If you happen to find your favorite tea while dining you can always purchase it to go home. They will teach you how to properly steep a pot of tea and make sure you have everything needed to do it with yourself. They have many great things in their gift shoppe. You can buy an entire tea set to do a proper English tea right in your own home. Everything they use they have for sale, as well.
