So, you have decided to make a change in the kitchen. There are many different ways you can go with this project. Most of them are quite expensive, but, some are very quick and inexpensive.
Replacing fixtures, lighting, and appliances can be costly, and may require a professional. Cabinet replacement, or re-facing, can also be costly, time consuming, and will require specialized tools.
If you want a new look without spending a fortune, or losing the use of your kitchen for weeks at a time, you can try these simple ideas for some easy, cost effective remedies to a dull, lifeless room.
1. Painting- This one is obvious. For a new look, try a new color. You can paint the walls, cabinets, and trim. The key here is the preparation. You will want to caulk and putty everything that needs it. Then, two coats and some touchups will do the job. Don't forget to use drop cloths throughout the entire process, or you will end up cleaning far longer than you spent working on the actual prep and paint job.
2. Window coverings- Replacing the curtains, or blinds, in your kitchen with something a little more modern will give you that new look as well. Be sure to shop around for the best quality that you can find for your budget.
3. Hardware- Every knob and handle in the kitchen can be replaced quickly, easily, and cheaply. There are hundreds of options out there, so, take your time and look around.
4. Shelves- Does your kitchen have a clutter problem? If so, you can add shelving. You can choose either prefabricated, assemble yourself, or shelves that you make. No matter which way you go, shelves will reduce clutter and make your kitchen look like a new space.
5. Dinette set- You can find a cheap dinette set at almost any thrift shop, or discount furniture store. A little searching and soon enough you'll have the new look for your kitchen.
It's as easy as that. With a bit of imagination, and a lot of shopping around, you will soon have a new look for your kitchen. Don't stop with these ideas, let this list stir your creativity so that you can create a room you, and your loved ones, will enjoy for many years. You do not need to be a pro you just need to be inventive. Have fun with the process, and try new ideas. Remember, change is good.
