Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon

I was kind disappointed in Transformer's 3: Dark of the Moon. The visuals were good and the 3D was nice. But the movie was slow, and too long by about 30 minutes or so. There was too much plot on the front end and too much unnecessary action for the 3D camera on the back end. It just didn't work as a film for me, and in fact two of the people I was with fell asleep in the movie. And just to clarify we are all big Transformer fans.

The first 30 minutes or so of the movie is a re-cap of the US Space Program with a little new discovery on the moon. Instead of finding an empty rock, they find a crashed Autobot spaceship. Only a few people know about the discovery and what was found. Then we rocket to the present where the Autobots are doing reconnaissance for the US and everything seems to be going well for them. Sam on the other hand is a recent graduate from college and is being kept out of Autobot business. And instead of wanting to be normal this time, Sam wants to do something that matters. This does not happen to include working in the mailroom at some corporate office while his new girlfriend works for a rich playboy. Then some information about the spaceship on the moon comes to light and several people who could have known about it suddenly die under suspicious circumstances. The Autobots feel that they need to retrieve the spaceship, and the special technology that was hidden on it before the Decepticons get to it. The Autobots don't know exactly what the special technology is because it was designed by Sentinel, the thinker amongst and former leader of the Autobots. All they know is that it was supposed to turn the tide of the Cybertron war in favor of the Autobots. Can the Autobots get to the technology before the Decepticons? And what sinister plans do the Decepticons have for humanity this time? You will just have to watch the movie to find out.

I didn't really care for this film. It was slow in spots. They spent way too much time on the footage for the space program. I also felt like at the end a lot of the action sequences were filmed for the 3D version of the film and really didn't add anything. Sort of like let's see what cool special effects we can use even though it doesn't add to the film. And I want to know what the deal is with them killing off my favorite Autobots? First Jazz and now. . . well I won't give it away; let's just say I wasn't at all happy. But if you are going to see it, see it in 3D. This film was filmed for 3D and I am sure it is a lot better in 3D (which is the way I experienced it).

The acting was okay. Shia Labeouf is still good as Sam. The smart aleky kid who wants to be more important than he currently is but doesn't want to pay his dues the normal way. Shia plays the frustrated yuppie well. He is the smooth talker that finds out that talking is getting him nowhere. Megan Fox is replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who plays Carly, Sam's new girlfriend. She is there to be pretty but she does have a moment proving she is not a total airhead. John Turtorro returns as former Agent Simmons from sector 7 who is now rich author. We also have a couple of new faces. The first being Patrick Dempsey who plays Dylan, Carly's rich boss who may be a bit too nice to her. Does he have some ulterior motives? The other is Alan Tudyk (you may know him as Wash from the Firefly series) he plays Dutch who is a very interesting man servant to Agent Simmons. Our army buddies are back again too with Josh Duhamel playing Major Lennox. They are again in the thick of the action.

Now I do realize this is a summer movie and it doesn't have to be Oscar worthy, but this movie wasn't even watch worthy. I know we show up to see the big robots transform into cool cars but there is not nearly enough of that and too much boring. I would suggest waiting for cable for this one. It's not worth the movie ticket price to me. But I will say that the Camero is still cool.
