Transformers: War for Cybertron is the latest installment in the long line of video games based on the familiar transforming alien robots from Hasbro. Developed by High Noon Studios, a subsidiary of Activision, Transformers: War for Cybertron offers fans of the franchise, and any newcomers an absolutely fantastic and enthralling gaming experience.

In the mid-eighties, the Transformers left their home planet of Cybertron, and eventually landed on earth - directly in our television sets in animated form. This original group of Transformers is known to most as generation one, or more commonly addressed by their fanbase as G1. The arrival of the robots introduced mankind to the ongoing civil battle between the Autobots, and the Decepticons. While there have been recent games from Activision based on the highly successful Hollywood films, what High Noon delivers in War for Cybertron is a spectacular and detailed glimpse of the civil war action that occurred before the G1 robots fled Cybertron, and found themselves headed for earth.

Transformers: War for Cybertron delivers high-impact 3D third person shooter action, with outstanding graphics, physics, and control. The game kicks-off in mid-battle on the robot's home planet of Cybertron, and what gamers will quickly realize is that the fluidity of action never really stops. Maneuvering throughout the battle, players progress throughout the various missions while revealing pieces of Transformers history in the accompanying storyline. Gamers unfamiliar with the world of the Transformers will find the story the game provides intriguing, and hard-core fanatics will enjoy witnessing historic tidbits that complement the overall series, including the defection of Starscream, and learning of the rise of Optimus Prime.

War for Cybertron can be enjoyed a number of ways. Story mode gameplay is available as both single, and coop games, while the title also offers online multiplayer action. Like any typical shooter, standard in-game movement is based on WSAD keyboard controls, and a myriad of other options will control other actions including vehicle actions, mode transformation, and Energon abilities.

Game extras include unlockable chararacters Arcee and Slipstream (more online), game movies, and concept art.

Transformers War for Cybertron is rated T for Teen by the ESRB, and is available for Windows PC, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS. This article is based on the Windows PC version of the game, and gameplay may vary by platform.
