Transitions Lenses: Eyeglasses that Darken in the Sun

Review of Transitions

I have rather extreme sensitivity to light. When it came time for an eye exam and new lenses, not to mention replacing my very out-dated frames, I considered Transitions lenses. I had some clip-on sunglasses for my old glasses. Although they worked fine, I didn't like how clipping them on and taking them off several times a day caused my glasses to become unadjusted so quickly. I wanted the simplicity of just having my lenses adjust accordingly as the light in my environments changed.

There are pros to having these lenses. The Transitions lenses adjust quickly when light conditions change. The photochromic lenses even reduce glare for my night driving. The [lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, which helps decrease risks of damage to the eyes] (Transitions, 2010).

There are a couple of cons involving these lenses. In photos, the lenses can take on a greenish hue. This is not that big of a deal to me. Another con is when driving during daylight hours. The lenses do not adjust as much as I'd like because of the UV coating on the windshield. Although my car windows are not tinted, they fool my lenses into thinking they don't need to darken that much when I'm in the car.

Overall, I like these lenses and would recommend them.
