Transportation Options for Getting to Atlantic City from New York Without Driving
For People of New York City, Brooklyn and Queens
Why Drive?
Driving is only attractive if you have a full car, an EZ Pass and a pretty gas efficient car. Yet with all those tolls and at least a two hour drive, it will cost at least $40 per car. Sure, you could leave and go whenever you want but it sucks for the driver and you run the chance of those dam NJ State Troopers that loves to stick you with a ticket.
Option A - Academy Bus / Port Authority Bus Terminal
At Gate 1 of the NY Port Authority, you could get a bus ride every 30 minutes to Atlantic City for $35 dollars plus a bonus for $20 cash certificate when you redeem it at the casino you arrive in (Bally, Caesar, Trump, or Tropicana). You are really paying $15 dollars for the trip and you can leave whenever you want as there are rides every 30 minutes. Make sure you arrive early to get the ticket for the time you want. Make sure you grab at timetable so when you leave, you will know what casino you should be at the time you want to leave. The buses are decently clean, smells okay and rarely crowded. Travel time is approx. 2 hr 30 minutes. Overall - Good
Option B - ACES Train (Atlantic City Express Service)
It was recently build by a combine effort of several casinos. The train is very nice and looks very much like the LIRR trains. It leaves from Penn Station. There are usually two time period to travel per day, three on weekends. When it first open up, it was insanely priced. One way tickets were $75 and those were regular economic seats. Nowadays, they have special days that offer $29 or $39 dollars. The travel time is the almost the same as a bus or even worse. Sometimes it can make it there in 2 hr 30 minutes and other time a little under 3 hours. Overall - Meh
Options C - Chinese Company Bus
This is the cheapest way to get to Atlantic City. The cost of a ticket is $15 or $20 dollars and you get back $50 in vouchers. Back then, they give you $25 cash but you could sell those vouchers to any of old Chinese ladies or dudes for $25 to $30 dollars. The thing is that seats are extremely limited as well as the return trip. It is also the primary transportation for old Chinese people. The bus smells weird and the bus appears clean but I am sure it is Very Disgusting. Yet the cheap ticket and the high bonus makes it an option. Overall - Great Value, Bad Bus
There are three locations to get on the bus (Timetable available on Ticket)
A.) Brooklyn 8th Avenue and 56th Street 830am, 930, 11, 1230pm 9 pm Return Trips are 330pm, 5, 6,7 and 4 am
B.) Queens Kissena Blvd and Barclay Ave 930 am and Return 445pm
Queens Main Street and 41th Ave 830pm and Return 4am
C.) Chinatown Division St and Confucius Plaza(Giant Red Building)
930am, 1030, 1130, 1230pm, 3,615, 830, 1115, 1am
Return 445pm, 550, 7, 830, 11, 1245am, 415, 645, 815am
If you decide to try the Chinese bus, be at the location 20 to 30 minutes before the time and find a banner of the Caesar Logo. Bring your Total rewards card and they will charge you $15. Sometimes they will charge $20 whenever they feel like or when you want a ticket for a future time. They will mention that the time you get on, you are guarantee a seat back at corresponding time. You can gamble by taking a later bus by arriving 30 minutes before the time you want to leave and wait for a chinese lady (sometime a guy) to mark a number on your ticket. You will know who it is when she/he comes. They usually get mob or just signal "I am here." NEVER EVER ARGUE with the Lady as you will be kick off or deny a seat. She has all the powers and there is no rules except her. There is also a mandatory $2 dollar "tip" but it still makes the trip the cheapest.
Option D - Grey Hound
Same as Option A - Port Authority. The pricing and bonus are similar. There are plenty of time to choose from and it is also at Port Authority.
Option E - Limo
Of course this option is if you hit big and/or baller. It is price pretty well for a one way trip back to New York. The rate varies from the time and day. The price I paid for was around $220 which included everything. The driver was average, and the time of travel is the same as driving minus the hassle of driving.
Option F - Helicopter
It is the only option I have never tried. I am not very fond of heights and it is the most expensive. I have heard that the trip takes approx 45 minutes and you are basically traveling in style.
