Transportation in San Diego - It's Easier Than You Think

Ebie Harris
San Diego is simply breathtaking. Known for its glorious weather and miles of spectacular coastlines, San Diego is a city that offers it all. The air is fresh and inviting. You can spend your day enjoying beach activities and your evenings experiencing the San Diego nightlife.

One of my main priorities while on vacation is the transportation. How will I get from one activity to another? I want lots of choices and I want my options to be simple. Surprisingly I find San Diego quite easy to navigate through.

If you are coming from the East Coast, like myself, you will most likely fly into San Diego International Airport. As soon as you land you discover the appeal of the city. This airport is one of the easiest large airports to navigate through. Clever signage and happy workers point you in the right direction at every turn.

At the airport itself you will find ample taxis and shuttles waiting to take you to your destination. Many of the local hotels offer either free or discounted shuttle service for their guests so be sure to check ahead. For those who prefer to drive themselves a rental car is the way to go. There are numerous rental car companies located right inside the San Diego Airport for you to choose from.

Once you make it out of the airport there are unlimited other transportation options. How about riding a trolley to tour the city of San Diego? The trolley runs throughout most of the city and can be accessed in many locations. If you miss the trolly hop on a bus. The Metropolitan Transit System's buses are practically on every corner. These buses run to all popular tourist destinations; including the ever popular San Diego beaches. Just like other high energy and tourist driven cities, San Diego has a fleet of taxis just waiting for your business.

If you have a large group consider renting out a charter bus or even a limo for your transportation needs. Many of the tourist charter buses offer exceptional views from the top deck. Limos are great for relaxing after a long day of sight seeing.

If you plan on staying close to the beaches consider taking around a pedicab cab. You can sit back and relax as someone else does the work. Up for the exercise? Rent a bike yourself and cruise along the ocean side. In the mood for some romance? Take a horse drawn carriage ride from the beach to dinner.

Everywhere you look in San Diego you will see many transportation options. A vacation should be relaxing and San Diego does a great job in providing stress free options for getting around the city.
