Trapper's Kettle Belfield, North Dakota

Denise White
When we arrived in Belfield the first site we noticed was a place that looked like an old fort. Well upon investigating I found out that this wasn't an actuall fort that it is a Hunting Lodge. The lodge area is very unique, it consists of 4 buildings. The first building is the restuarant area, to open the front door you must grab handles that are old steel traps like the trapper's used to use. Once inside the doors you enter the gift shop area. The room is amazing, it has open beam ceiling and logs in the center to support shelves as well as the roof. Then you move on into the restaurant area. It is a very neat dinning experience as well, the salad bar area is in the design of an old chuck wagon. You pick your salad of choice and place it on a club aluminum skillet. The staff are very friendly and happy to see you, and the food was excellent. Any time you get to the area stop by the Trapper's Kettle and eat or just browse.

The next building is designed as an old livery stable. At one end of it there is a lounge and the other is motel rooms. There is even buffalo skins hanging over the window's as curtains. This build is very interesting. Oh and you can even bring your horse's with you, they have a 4 or 5 stalls with shelter behind the complex for you to store them for the night.

The next building is all motel rooms. And in front of them is the area that is a replica of an old fort. It has the walls and the look out points just like a real fort would. Inside this area is a swimming pool for the guests to enjoy. It is so neat how they built it all to look like an old fort post.

Across the drive is a grassy area, this is where an athentic old covered wagon and buck board wagon sits. I was so amazed with the covered wagon you just don't see them in their natural state anymore. Nothing had been done to this wagon and you could see the effects of the elements on it. I sat for the longest time just looking at it and wondering who had traveled in this wagon and where did they go and come from. To bad the wagon couldn't speak I bet it could tell some wonderful stories.

Thanks for letting me share my experiences with you all. I hope you enjoy. I hope all 4 pictures loaded.
