TRASH

S. E. Masters
Tired of taking out the trash
Have to empty it everyday
It piles up so quickly
How does it get that way

Wrappers, paper, bags, and scraps
From bathrooms, kitchen and den
Stuff I just don't care about
Or ever plan to use again

The cans should be emptied again
My son's old enough for the job now
He does it happily to help out Dad
Without gripe, complaint, or frown

I'm so selective and careful
Not to throw out what I need
Then one day I considered the thought
That having trash is evidence of prosperity

Some say, "I'm so broke I can't pay attention"
That sounds really bad
But Lord help the one who is so needy
That he doesn't even have trash.
