The Effects of Divorce on Children Can Be Very Painful and Have Serious Side Effects
If you and your spouse are planning on getting a divorce and there are children involved in your relationship then you both must take the time to sit your child down and explain what is going on and why and especially explain that it's not their fault. Even if you and your partner are very angry at each other, you still need to work together through out the divorce when it comes to your children and make sure that it's not a traumatic experience for them. For some children it is especially tough because they end up feeling like they are trapped in between you and your spouse and get confused when they start thinking about where they are going to live and when. Make sure you take the time to talk with your children through out your diverse.
Sometimes with the effects of divorce on children you might have to consider getting some professional help. Ever once in a while children need somebody to talk to that isn't their fighting parents. Sometimes when a child tries to talk to their fighting parents, their words can become twisted and the parents end up using those words to hurt each other. You must always make sure that you watch what you say when your children are around. As tough as it is to do you must try to make things as positive as possible.
Some other effects of divorce on children can be depression and even anxiety. In this case the most damaging thing that you can make your child do during and after the divorce is choose between the two of you. This kind of damage can be at its worst during weekends, holidays and even birthdays where the child has to choose which parent hey want to spend their time with. You should also never try to get your child to testify against the other parent for money or special attention and also never lie to them about the other parent to try and scare them away from them. Never put them in any situation where they have to choose between mom and dad.
Honesty is always the best policy when talking to your children about your divorce. Let them know what to anticipate in the future and make sure you get it across to them that the divorce has nothing to do with them and that it's not their fault. As long as you find a way to support your children through out the tough times they will be ok in the end.
The major effects of divorce on children can be a very tough thing to go through, but when you get together as a family and face the challenges together you will find that things will work out in the end.
