What do you think of when you hear River town, a river of course, paddlewheels, calliopes, steam boat captains of long ago. Mansions turned into quaint inns, still with the surviving furnishings. Some with meticulous hand picked items of the era, of which the mansion was built, for the sea captain, or aristocrat to live in. Stay in one of the perfect appointed rooms and relive the past, imagine being the sea captain, or his beautiful coiffeur wife. The galas and garden parties, they hosted with all the local dignitaries, that attended by invitation only. and arriving in their carriages. The orchestra that played throughout the night, entertaining their guest . Or do you think of the diners dotted here and there waiting to fill up your hungry belly, with the proprietors telling you a story or two. Don't forget the bourbon distilleries and wineries.

The southern hospitality is in full bloom this time of year. Along with the farmers markets with their bountiful colorful vegetables they so painstakingly grow, nurture and sell off the back of their farm wagons and tailgates, so we may enjoy the season with delectable food straight from the garden, to your awaiting tongue. It never disappoints, from the first bite, till you feel the juice running down your cheek. The farmers who grow it, cook it, and serve it from their very own farm restaurants. The Petting zoos , and u-pick farms, to spend the day with the family.

Don't forget the fall festivals with their vibrant colors of crimson, burnt orange and yellow. The pumpkins, and corn stalks with fresh corn, the smell of cinnamon, from baked breads and rolls, right out of the oven, the barbecue chicken on the grill. All awaiting to be gobbled down by a hungry festival visitor. Don't forget the apron clad lady selling her family recipes of jams, jellies and apple pie.

There is country lanes to drive down and see beautiful thoroughbred horses standing so tall, their coats so sleek and shiny, heads held high so proud, manes and tails flying in the breeze. Visit a horse park and see first hand past derby winners, or museum. A little further down the road you see antique stores waiting to be explored, find that treasure, share a few childhood memories get a cold drink, rest a spell, or hear a story or two, get a family recipe of those cookies you just wolfed down. It's all here waiting for you to make your own very own memories.
