Travel Australia's South East Coast

Kerry Mulherin
When planning your Sydney vacation, allow some time to travel south down the east coast. Experience Australia's fine wines, golf, delicious cheese and spectacular fishing venues. The area known as the Sapphire Coast is home to towns such as Eden, Merimbula and Bermaguie. Go whale watching, explore the lake lands teaming with Aboriginal culture, or cruise in the quiet bay areas to watch the antics of the local seal and dolphin population.

Australia fishing vacations in New South Wales give any avid angler a one of a kind experience. The east coast just south of Sydney is synonymous with freshwater and saltwater fishing. Cast your line into the big game fish arena. Plan ahead and book chartered day tours or set your own itinerary after arriving.

Fish for Tuna, Shark or Black Marlin in Batemans Bay, or catch your fill of some smaller fish such as snapper and flathead. Recreational fishing licenses can be obtained for around $6 per adult and are valid for one month. For game fishing, other requirements may need to be met. Your guide will inform you of these details. On day charters, lunch and refreshments are provided, as well as all fishing equipment.

A wide array of accommodation is available in Batemans Bay. Make your choice of simple powered campsites, holiday homes or cabins, a fully serviced bed & breakfast or a fabulous 5 star hotel.

There are many marine and inland national parks in the area. Camp near Pebbly Beach and befriend a kangaroo. Take up some new outdoor hobbies such as kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, diving or four wheeling. There is an activity waiting for any age group and capability.

Travel to the south east coast is easy. Simply head south from Sydney and follow the coastal highways. It's almost impossible to get lost! If you'd prefer a guided tour rather than driving yourself; there are planned vacation packages available with bus charters leaving Sydney regularly. Ask your travel agent for details or surf the web to tailor your own dream vacation.

Contact the city of your choice and ask for a local travel agency contact. The representative will happily assist you in booking your holiday directly from the Australian office. You'll be able to plan your accommodation needs, reserve road coach seats from Sydney, and even locate a day charter to go on that once in a lifetime fishing trip.

Passports are required for travel to Australia and are easy to obtain. Contact your local Post Office for more information on how to apply. All you are left to do is pack a bag and board your flight!
