Travel Gold Country

Coloma, California

Do you love history? Do you love to learn about American Heritage? Would you visit a historical location if given the opportunity? I have first hand experience on where you can go in Northern California.

Coloma, California, is a small but rich town in El Dorado County up North in the state. Taking State Highway 50 as if you are heading to Lake Tahoe use the off ramp to State Highway 49 which heads Northbound.

Coloma, California, is the home of the gold rush in 1848. Park your car out on the street and walk up to all the historical buildings that still stand to this day. The American River runs along side the highway and you can drive the bridge to reach other side where there is a small community.

None of the buildings have been modernized. They still stand exactly as they were at the time the town was very active. Wide open spaces and the quiet of the town is a great place for spending the day.

The nature center is an excellent choice to visit and find out about the animals and plants that live in the area. You can visit the museum to learn about the late 1800s and they have a gift shop next to it.

Want a bite to eat? Simply stop over by the small shop and enjoy a small meal.

Accomodations are not available there in Coloma but you can head back to State Highway 50 and locate a nice inn in the city of Apple Hill or Placerville.

I made a day trip out of my visit and it was very enjoyable. I highly recommend this small town for all history buffs looking for the good old old days.

I like a simple life where I am able to take full advantage of nature and I like to capture it in my photography. On occasion, I write for pleasure but I am a writer and photographer.  View profile
