If your lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit, here are some of the locals' favorites to help you make the most of your vacation.

Cannon Beach, Oregon's Best Kept Secret #1

For one of the best and easily accessible views, take a drive down West Madison Street (just off the main street, South Hemlock). At the end of the street you'll be rewarded with a view of the most photographed landmark on Oregon's coast, Haystack Rock, a white sandy beach, impressive ocean waves, and the perfect bench to sit on and contemplate the beauty of it all.

Cannon Beach, Oregon's Best Kept Secret #2

Many Cannon Beach restaurants have clam chowder on the menu, but you'll find the best at The Wayfarer's Restaurant (oceanfront), 1190 Pacific Drive, Cannon Beach. The Driftwood Inn at 179 North Hemlock, mid-town, is the next best choice.

Cannon Beach, Oregon's Best Kept Secret #3

Bella Espresso is where the locals go for coffee and dessert. You might feel as if your in Italy when you walk into this coffee house. It is influenced by the owner's Italian family heritage, and filled with beautiful art, fountains and seating areas. A very popular item is the genuine Gelato imported directly from Milan, Italy. Their coffee is hot air roasted, wonderfully smooth and rich. Definitely the best in town! Visit their website at bella-espresso.com/. They are located at 231 North Hemlock in Cannon Beach.

Cannon Beach, Oregon's Best Kept Secret #4

The best budget priced hotel in Cannon Beach is Sea Breeze Court. It is close to the beach and offers large, comfortable, clean rooms at a reasonable price. During the off season (October through March), room rates start as low as $80.

Cannon Beach, Oregon's Best Kept Secret #5

If you like to hike, or are just looking for more spectacular scenery, go to Ecola State Park and hike the Clatsop Loop Trail. Hike through the magical coastal forest and take in the breathtaking ocean views. Go beachcombing on Indian Beach and search through endless tidal pools.

The climate is generally mild year round, but remember the reason for the many incredible shades of green and numerous rushing waterfalls, is lots of rain. Be prepared, and you'll be sure to enjoy the Oregon coast no matter what the weather!

The first recorded journey (by a white man) to Cannon Beach was by William Clark (one of the leaders of the Lewis and Clark expedition) in 1806. To see such beauty virtually untouched, must have been a transforming experience.
