As a melting pot of cultures, Miami, Florida offers diverse activities and attractions highlighted by its famous beaches and exceptional getaway spots. It is filled with family-friendly adventure and water parks, resorts, museums and interactive science centers. A number of day tours and camps for families and children also provide interesting options to make the most out of a Miami vacation.

Planning a Family Trip

With a sub-tropical climate similar to that of the Caribbean tropics, Miami is a popular vacation city for most times of the year. The peak season is from January to April, while its low season is from June to September, which generally falls during the wet season. Yet, regardless of the time of the year, the presence of tourists is very much apparent around Miami.

Choosing which part of Miami to go to depends on the specific activities and attractions the family wants to visit during their stay. The Miami Beach area is a premium location that features miles of beaches and shopping, dining, entertainment and relaxation spots. The South Beach area exposes visitors to the renowned Deco architecture, along with a variety of fine eateries, shopping establishments and beach parks. The Central Miami area houses some of the largest and most impressive hotels and hotel chains in the United States.

Accommodations

Miami is popular for accommodation spots where families can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing and fishing. Its famous beaches are mostly hosted by oceanfront hotels. These miles of beaches stretch from South Pointe Park all the way to the north towards the Sunny Isles Beach.

The family can also extend their vacation to other nearby parts of the Miami-Dade County area including the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, which features a 19th century lighthouse, and the Crandon Park Beach, a place where children and adults can enjoy tram tours and bird and butterfly walks. A waterfront Miami Beach vacation rental such as the one offered in Haulover Beach Park offers the family with a fully-equipped marina and interesting shoreline.

Popular Family Destinations

Aside from world-class beach attractions, Miami is also home to a number of museums, galleries and exhibitions. Children can enjoy several water parks with enormous slides, zoos and play centers as well. Popular family destinations around the city include the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Miami Metrozoo, Flagler Monument Island, Frost Art Museum, Jungle Island, Miami Seaquarium, Biscayne Nature Center, Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium and Camp Live Oak. Families can also try fun cruises offering many sightseeing activities for kids and the entire family like the ones offered by Island Queen Cruises.
