Travel Guide to Landskrona, Sweden

One of the many cool places to make a stop in while touring Skane (the southern tip of Sweden) is the seaside city of Landskrona. It is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, and is one of the busiest port cities on the Oresund. If you want to go visit the Island of Ven and their amazing Tycho Brahe Museum, you must take the half hour Scandlines ferry from Landskrona. Go ahead and make arrangements to stay here a day or two. This city has a lot to offer that you will not want to miss.

You would do well to hit the Tourist Office first off at Storgatan 13. they can provide you with plenty of maps and brochures in a number of languages, many times for free. They are only open on the week days though, from 10:00 to 17:00. If you are lost for where to stay, they can make hotel arrangements for you on top of suggesting what to see and do while you are in Landskrona.

My main reason for frequent trips to Landskrona is the excellent shopping downtown. Many of the narrow streets are cobblestone, and the buildings are mostly historical and just cool as hell. Actually, most of the cities are like this, but there is something about the feel of downtown Landskrona that I just really like a great deal. You can find hella deals on both modern items and antiques along these streets.

My favorite shops in Landskrona are the Lustgarden Boutique, which has an array of awesomely unusual gifts and souvenirs at really low prices (They are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday though, so do plan your trip accordingly...) and the Slottplatsens Butik, which is just full of wonderful household items like Swedish kitchen utensils, high-grade porcelains, and a few items of clothing made of linen and wool. They are both just really cool shops to wander around in. There is also a place near the main parking area that specializes in suitcases and handbags in leather. Oh man. I could spend a small fortune in that shop. Great stuff. In the market for clothing? Just stand in the center and look around. You will see racks and racks of clothing out on the sidewalks.

Of course there are many more shops in the area. They line numerous streets in the main business area of Landskrona, dotted in between by fabulous eateries. Do stop in to the Radhusconditoriets Cafe & Bufe at Radhustorget 5 for some excellent food of the region. They serve true Swedish food here, with a penchant for specialties of the Skane region. Mmm mmm good, and not overly expensive either.

Another great place is on the Bay inside the main coastal park, over there near the castle. You can't miss it. That's Walter's, and is where you want to go if you are in the mood for dining with a view of the Oresund waters while moaning over the wonderful local seafood.

As far as places to stay, if you don't feel like relying on the Tourist Office to make your reservation, go ahead and book at Slottplatsens B&B in the center of Landskrona. You can find it at Parkgatan 10, which very near to where you want to be to catch that ferry to Ven, and to see the Castle Citadellet. Slott is the Swedish word for Castle, by the way, and Platsens means place. So anything you look up that says Slottsplatsens means it is near the castle.

Speaking of castles, if you wish to actually stay in one, then go over to Glumslov right outside Landskrona. Orenas Slott is an impressive castle which has been converted into a hotel. You will pay more, certainly, but it is well worth it. Oh is it so worth it. And really, when I say more expensive, it all depends on when you book. the weekends are half the price of weekdays at around 80 bucks per night, and that includes breakfast. For a castle. Are you feelin me here? they have a swimming pool, golf course, full restaurant... everything you would want and expect in a castle, along with a breathtaking view of the Oresund waters.

If you are into sports at all, you will want to catch one of Landskrona's fotball games. The BoiS are one of Sweden's most popular teams for a reason. They are exciting to watch. Hell, it is just as fun to watch the fans at the games. If you see a big ol 6'6" guy yelling at the refs, that is probably my husband. Men.

There are many small beaches that are all family-friendly along the strand in Landskrona, and if the kids tire of that, head over to Karlslundbadet where you will find a bubble pool, indoor & outdoor waterslides, and just a host of great water activities.

There is a Greyhound park in Landskrona, as well as an arena for Motor Sports; and both Sailing and Fishing are very popular. You can even fish in the moat around the Citadellet Castle. The city is just made for families and fun, as well as relaxing in the parks that meander all through the city. So do be sure to not overlook booking a few days stay in Landskrona on your way to the beautiful Isle of Ven. You would miss a good view of Swedish culture.
