There are a few different ways to reach the top of Pike's Peak. You could hike to the top of the mountain, if you like. Pike's Peak is about fourteen and a half thousand feet high though, so make sure that you're up to that type of climb. Another way to reach Pike's Peak would be to drive up the mountain.
In my opinion, the best way to travel to Pike's Peak is via the train. The train ride is called the Pike's Peak Cog Railway, and that is how I reached the top of the mountain on my trip.
This cog railway train was designed specifically for the mountain climb, and it's a very safe way to reach the top of the mountain. In fact, thus far, there has never been an accident on the train ride. And the train ride has been around for decades; that's a pretty good track record. The train also has huge windows that allow you to see everything. So don't worry about missing out on the view while traveling up the mountain.
How do you access the train, you ask? Well, you start off in Colorado Springs. You don't have to make a reservation for the train ride, but you do have to pay a fee. After this, you obtain your tickets and board the train. The trains are all painted red and are quite comfortable. There will be a tour guide at the front of the train who informs you of historical facts and other things, as you proceed up the mountain.
Upon reaching the summit of Pike's Peak, you will be able to disembark from the train for a little while. You can walk around the mountain or explore the souvenir shop. There is food and beverages available for you to purchase, as well. At the top of Pike's Peak, you will have a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. In fact, you can see four states from the summit of the mountain.
The reason why you can see so far is because you are fourteen and a half thousand feet in the air. If you want to enhance your view even more, then use one of the telescope lenses at the top of the mountain. I believe the telescopes cost a quarter or two, but it's worth it.
But be careful and take it slow while you're walking on the summit of the mountain. The air is much thinner at the top, and some people can easily overdue it. I had no such problems, but you might. And you may want to take a jacket since the air tends to be cooler at the summit of the mountain.
Pike's Peak has truly gorgeous scenery. Whether you're going up to the top of the mountain, or you are already at the top; the scenery is fantastic throughout the journey. Being able to see the snow melt, foliage, rock formations; etc will really take your breath away.
