Travel India - Unique Laser Show at Swaminarayana Temple at Gandhinagar in Gujarat State

We had an unique opportunity to view wonderful laser show at the Swaminarayana temple, situated at Gandhinagar in the Gujarat State during our visit to India during last winter. We found this special laser show so effective that I thought it would be better to share it with all my AC friends and readers so that they also can have an opportunity to view it during their next visit to India.

This beautiful Swaminarayana temple, known as Akshar Dham, is situated in the city of Gandhinagar, which is the capital of the Gujarat State. Gandhinagar is situated at the distance of around 15 miles from the famous city of Ahmedabad. We had stayed at Ahmedabad for around one week during our last visit to India. Hence, we grabbed the opportunity to visit this Swaminarayana temple during our stay there. We started from our home in Ahmedabad at around 9 am in the morning by our own car and reached the temple at around 11 am. There is a big parking lot available for the visitors with nominal charges of around Rs.30(65cents) per car. The entrance gate to the temple is very beautiful. The strict security check is done prior to entry inside the temple and items like purse, mobile phones, food items, cameras etc. are not allowed inside the temple. This is specifically due to the security threat imposed by various terrorists groups. As soon as you enter the temple, there is a walkway that goes up to the temple door. There are beautiful water fountains on both the sides of the walkway. The famous open air theater for this laser show is on the right hand side after the entry inside the gate. There is a ticket window and each visitor is required to buy an entry ticket at the rate of Rs.75 ($1.75) to view this laser show. This laser show is held on all days except Monday at around 7 pm depending upon the sunset time. It is suggested to buy your ticket at least two hours in advance as there is a big rush and it is possible that the tickets may get exhausted.

The visitors are allowed to enter inside the theater half an hour earlier to the show time. Make sure to grab a seat in the center of the theater at some height as water may splash on you if you are sitting in couple of front rows. The capacity of this stadium is around 5000 and even then, it gets full almost on all days. As soon as the show starts, you will be fully engrossed in it. The laser rays are thrown with a special projector against the fine water spray, which create the most beautiful large size color pictures. The sound effect is created with mikes all around the stadium. The laser show tells us the story of Nachiketa who is 8 years old boy, having the dialogues with Yamraja, the king of death, regarding what happens after the death to human beings. These dialogues are very famous in Hindu religion. The show lasts for 45 minutes and is extremely eye-catching, interesting, and creates wonderful background effects. We have seen many laser shows here in USA, but this show is even better than all of them. We were so immersed in the show that we could not return back to reality even after its completion. The show ended at around 8 pm. We came out of the temple and started our return journey back to home. We reached home at around 9 pm. We still cannot forget this wonderful show, even after 3 months of seeing it.

I am sure that most of my AC friends and readers will like to view this laser show and hence, have no hesitation in recommending it to all of them during their next visit to the State of Gujarat in India. If any of my readers have any questions on this, all are free to contact me.
