Travel to Savannah, Georgia and Explore Southern History and Culture

Samantha Jean Lincoln
Traveling is a passion of mine, I have been to just about every state in America, Mexico, England, Africa, Canada, Alaska and a few places I am probably forgetting. One of my most memorable vacations was a trip to Savannah, GA. Savannah has a rich history, spectacular character and an unforgettable natural beauty. This place has something for everyone, from beach activities, biking, wonderful wine bars, great restaurants, amazing accommodations and so much more.

Whether you are looking for a luxury hotel, a bed & breakfast or an affordable chain motel, Savannah has accommodations to fit your needs.

Savannah's History
The township of Savannah was founded in 1733. In the winter of 1732, the ship Anne carried 114 colonists, including General James Oglethorpe to Georgia's coast. On February 12, 1733 General Oglethorpe and his settlers founded the city of Savannah along with John and Mary Musgrove, Indian traders. Since the founding of this majestic city, it has been one of America's most visited cities. Today Savannah, Georgia attracts a whopping seven million visitors every year.

Accommodations
Savannah has some of the most beautiful and quaint places to stay during your vacation, the problem here is, which one to pick. All of the accommodations are within a reasonable rate according to the level of amenities you require. Personally I enjoyed my stay in the Historic district, in one of their bed & breakfast's. The historic district is full of Georgia's deep rooted culture and a hospitality that is so meaningful that your will feel like family no matter where you go. I stayed at Savannah Bed & Breakfast, which is nestled deep in the heart of the historic district with all Savannah attractions right at your fingertips. This B&B has the most affordable rates, but don't worry just because you pay a lower rate does not mean that you will receive anything less than the best. The cost to stay at this B&B is $109.00 per night on weeknights, weekends are a little more expensive.

Night time entertainment

Savannah has some of the most rich music bellowing through the streets from the local bars and night clubs. The main type of music is rooted in jazz, blues and bluegrass, but there is a place for all to enjoy all styles of music. There is usually a cover charge at most of the jazz and blues clubs as well as the bigger night clubs that cater to the younger crowds. Most of the local bars and pubs do not charge a cover, but some will require a two drink minimum. I recommend Jazz'd Tapas Bar, located at 52 Bernard Street in the historic district. This jazz bar offers the best of everything, food, drinks, wine, entertainment and above all the best staff.

Must see attractions

Billy's Place at McDonough's; spectacular cuisine and friendly service.
Cobblestone tours; this was so much fun.
The Pirates House; this is the oldest building in Savannah, built in 1734.
Forsyth Park; the largest and oldest park in Savannah, the landscape here is breathtaking.
The Mercer House; this is where James Williams lived and eventually died.
