Travel for Seniors

Don't think that just because you're a senior citizen, and living on a fixed income, that you have to stop traveling. There are vacation destinations throughout the United States that are accommodating to seniors, and their budgets.

Our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. has been in the spotlight quite a bit lately. You may be surprised to learn that D.C. is a great travel location for seniors. The transportation is superb, and low cost. Many of the memorials, government buildings and museums do not charge admission.

New York City is another popular location. With an assortment of ways to get around the city, buses are the most economical. Most attractions offer senior discounts. Central Park offers several free concerts during the summer months, and street fairs are held throughout the city. For those of you that want to sightsee but cannot get around easily, consider a boat tour around Manhattan.

Get in touch with the past as you travel through Colonial Williamsburg. Restored to replicate life as it was in the 1700's, the city is full of historic spots. The local bus system offers a special senior fair of only fifty cents.

With lots of attractions and wonderful restaurants, Chicago is a favorite vacation destination. The Chicago Trolley offers discount senior tours where stops include the Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile and the Sears Tower. The Shedd Aquarium offers senior discounts, and the Lincoln Park Zoo has free admission.

Before your trip, make a list of any medical conditions, along with current medications and dosage. If you're traveling to a different time zone, ask your doctor what time your medication should be taken. Pack medication in their original container with your carry-on baggage. Carry emergency phone numbers with you at all times.

These are just a few favorite U.S. travel destinations. Opportunities can be found coast-to-coast. Do not stop living your dream just because you're a senior.
