Baggage Sizes
As a benchmark followed by many local and international airlines, a carry-on bag should have a combined linear measurement of 45 inches. Although the weight is more crucial to airline companies, the carry-on baggage must always fit in the bag sizer. Meanwhile, a checked-in baggage should have a combined linear measurement usually up to 62 inches. These measurements may slightly vary depending on the airline, the destination (domestic or international), and the passenger class.
Carrying Liquids
Size restrictions on liquids brought in flight include food and drink items, toiletries, and medications. All forms of commercial air travel impose limited quantities of liquids, gels, and aerosols to be brought during the flight including items like shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, and hair spray. Those allowed are generally in travel sizes with maximum capacity of 3.4 oz. each. Larger ones should be packed in the checked baggage.
Containers of liquids allowed in the hand-carry baggage should be packed in a transparent resealable plastic bag that has a maximum size of 8 inches by 8 inches or the equivalent of a total capacity of 1 liter per passenger.
Sports Items and Musical Instruments
Rules involving the travel size restrictions in sports items and musical instruments brought during a flight depend from one airline to another. In general, smaller items such as a guitar, violin, or poker set can be brought as part of the carry-on luggage allowance as long as these can be stowed n the overhead compartment or underneath the seat. However, many sports items are only allowed in the checked baggage.
Some airlines also allow certain members of their frequent flyer programs or other similar travel programs to bring more or bigger sports items and musical instruments for their carry-on allowance free-of-charge. Otherwise, the person may need to pay additional amount for the item to be brought during the flight, whether as part of the carry-on baggage or the check-in baggage where it is described as a fragile material.
Strollers and Other Specialty Items
A stroller brought during the flight must have a collapsed diameter not exceeding 10 inches and length not exceeding 36 inches. Other specialty items, as long as they are clearly needed by the passengers, are allowed in addition of the carry-on allowance and are not measured for specific figures.
Aside from large items for the baby's use, other specialty items include mobility aids like braces, canes, crutches, walkers, and communication devices, container carrying life-sustaining items, battery-powered medical equipment, personal oxygen concentrators, and cremated remains properly stored in an urn, cardboard or wooden box. These materials must be available for appropriate security screening and accompanied by the required certificates or permits.
