There are a few things to take into consideration as you are making your travel plans to Super Bowl XLIII.
1. Distance
2. Amount of time that you can take off from work
3. Amount of money budgeted for the trip, which should include food, lodging, gas (if driving), and tickets.
To simplify this guide, I will walk you through how we made our travel plans for Super Bowl XLIII. We already have our tickets, so that is not a part of the travel budget.
Go Online to Mapquest - http://www.mapquest.com/
Go online to Mapquest, and figure out how far it is to Super Bowl XLIII , and how long it will take you to get there. Mapquest will let you know approximately how many hours it will take to make the trip.
Driving The Car
We live in Oregon. From where we live, to Tampa, Florida and Super Bowl XLIII, is 3,057 miles. With our car making approximately 25 miles to the gallon, and averaging gas prices at $2.00 a gallon, the round trip would cost us about $433.00, just in gas. That does not include wear and tear on our vehicle, food or lodging. The trip would also take us about 45 hours and 40 minutes .
The Bus - Greyhound - http://www.greyhound.com
With our military discount ($198 off a round trip ticket) and a 7-day advance purchase, the trip would cost us $340.00 each. The round trip would cost us $680.00, and would take 3 days 4 hours and 10 minutes.
The Train - http://amtrak.com
I love to travel by train. It is so pleasant and comfortable, which is one reason why we considered it as our mode of travel to Super Bowl XLIII . The trip would take us 85 hours, which is a little over 3 ½ days, at a cost of $554.00 each round trip with military discount. Without it, the trip would cost us $616.00 each round trip.
Flying - http://www.cheapflights.com
The nice thing about using 'cheap flights.com is, it gives you a list of flights, and you can make your choice. Also, this site allows you to book flights only, flights and hotel or flight, hotel and car rental. This is the way that we decided to go, because we were able to take care of everything at once, and in the long run, it was no more expensive than traveling any other way.
We made sure the car we rented had GPS so we could do some sightseeing while we were there. I've never been as far as Florida before, and I am really looking forward to it.
