Bodensee is a very popular vacation area for many Europeans. The lake offers its visitors beautiful picturesque scenery, as well as many water activities such as diving, swimming and sunbathing. The lake also has a very popular bike trail that surrounds the lake and many different health spas that Europeans flock to every year.
There are several small towns that surround the lake such as Meersburg in which you can take a ferry across the lake from the charming town of Konstanz. Meersburg is a medieval city located in the southwest part of Lake Constance in Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. I have always enjoyed historic cultural areas and this town has it all, the town features unique architecture, quaint passageways and many other interesting and intriguing sights.
Friedrichshafen is another town off to the north of Bodensee in South Germany. Friedrichshafen is the home of the Zeppelin museum. Visitors to the museum can easily learn about the historic Zeppelin airships and the part the airships played in aviation history.
Another terrific attraction is Minimundus, which was opened back in 2005 near Lake Constance in Meckenbeuren, Germany. The original Minimundus or miniature park is in Carinthia, Austria. Both locations have many unique and exceptional miniatures, which are breathtakingly exquisite in their detail. Some of the best known miniatures are the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the Tower of London and the White House.
Konstanz is a university city at the west of Bodensee in the southwest section of Germany and the city borders the country of Switzerland. The University of Konstanz makes this city of moderate size and while there is convenient ferry service to the town of Meersburg, catamarans offer shuttle service for travelers to the township of Friedrichshafen.
Konstanz features beautiful cathedrals and while strolling through the streets many street musicians provide for hours of enjoyment.
I lived in Germany for approximately six years and I loved every minute of it, traveling the country from top to bottom and into other countries such as Austria, France and Spain was how I spent my free time on the weekends. Germany is beautiful and the vast culture the different regions hold is truly captivating.
