Green Bay Road and its nearby areas offer long stretches of hotels, motels, and inns for travelers going to Great Lakes, Illinois and its surrounding areas. It takes about 36 minutes to reach Green Bay Road from the Chicago O'Hare International Airport, the primary airport in Chicago. There's another major airport in the city, the Chicago Midway International Airport. However, O'Hare is nearer Green Bay Road than Midway.

Popular Attractions

Many relatively affordable accommodations are located within Green Bay Road. A number of travelers visiting Chicago for vacations in popular attractions typically check-in to these hotels.

Travelers often visit the following tourist, shopping, entertainment, and recreation spots: Six Flags Great America; Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall; Prime Outlets Shopping; Dairyland Greyhound Park; Jelly Belly Factory Tours; Bristol Renaissance Faire; Rink Side Family Entertainment Center; Genesee Theater; and Potawatomi.

Great Lakes Naval Base Graduation Ceremony

Hotels around Green Bay Road are also popular destinations for families and friends attending the Great Lakes Naval Base Graduation Ceremony. Most of the establishments here are anywhere from 1.5 to 10 miles away from the naval base. They also typically offer special discounted Navy rates for those attending the U.S. Navy graduation rites, along with free shuttle services for guests going to and from the ceremony. However, most of these hotels don't offer free shuttle services to and from the airport.

Transportation Options

While it is easy to find shuttle services to take you to and from the airport and your hotel, a discounted roundtrip rate still takes about $100 (as of 2010). Taxi fares around the area are quite expensive. So what's the more affordable way to travel around? Renting a car or van. You can save much when just renting a vehicle for your trip, especially if you're traveling to various areas around. However, unless you are very familiar with the area already, it is always best to have a GPS unit with you.

Toll Fees

Since you will be passing toll gates during your trip, you may check the toll rates through the Illinois Tollway website.

To be on the safe side, take lots of coins with you. For less hassle, prepare coins already arranged in groups of $1 each. Unfortunately, you would pay double the toll fees if you don't have an I-PASS (an electronic piece attached to the car and is read at the appropriate lane at the toll plaza where motorists can conveniently pass by instead of paying the toll fee each time. As a traveler not frequently driving around the area, the I-PASS is not a good buy. As of 2010, toll fees generally cost around 80 cents (varying per tollway). It is best to prepare at least $3 in quarters and at least a dollar in dimes and nickels. There are toll plazas on the road providing manned toll booths where you can pay with bills. However, most exits require exact change.

The bold lettering designates Mainline Plazas. Take note that unattended plazas either use an I-PASS or exact coins only and there are no receipts available.
