The architecture, history, art, culture and food found in Rome are all one of a kind. So, if you are looking for some new experiences, then Rome is the place to go. Rome is known mainly for its history, which spans over 2,500 years as one of the founding cities of western civilization.

With so much to see and do with probably not enough time, you'll want to plan your trip out accordingly to make sure you see all the main sites that Rome has to offer.

In Ancient Rome you'll find the historical Coliseum which is made up of some of the most beautiful and ancient architectural art you will ever see. The coliseum is an elliptical amphitheatre located in the center of Rome. This historical landmark was used for gladiatorial contests, and games based on the classical mythology stories. It's really a site that you shouldn't miss when visiting Rome.

Another place to visit in Ancient Rome is the Roman and Imperial Forums, where you can find two sets of forums or public squares. The ruins located at this forum mark the center of the Roman Empire and hold the remaining seats of power in Ancient Rome. You most likely won't find any architectural structure to be in one piece at this location nor at many of the ancient architectural locations in Rome. You can also discover and study many artifacts up close, which can mainly be found in the museums around Ancient Rome. These museums are the Capitoline Museum, Imperial Forums Museum, and the Museum of Roman Civilization.

The Baths of Caracalla, which are the largest of the Roman Baths, are really a sight to see. Although, very damaged due to earthquakes, these Baths were a custom with the early Romans because of the fact that most Romans didn't have running water where they lived.

If you don't suffer from a weak heart, you'll want to visit the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus. These catacombs have a lot of history, stories and archaeological art and are considered the best examples of early history of the Christians in Roman and their chambers in which they were buried in. The best time to visit the catacombs is in the daylight hours due to there being little light underground as it is. The touristy areas are maintained to allow for people who are interested in this historical site to visit in safe conditions.

One of the most beautiful places in the world is the Vatican City. With streets of art and culture, you'll get the true Italian experience. The Vatican City is located in the middle of Rome and is considered to be its own country. Only some sections of the Vatican City are open to the public, but the areas that are open are very interesting and open to visitors.

Lastly, you won't want to miss the Sistine Chapel which is the best known chapel in the Apostolic Palace. Michelangelo painted 12,000 sq feet of the chapel ceiling. The ceiling is one of the most amazing sites in the entire European continent.

With the many places to visit in Rome, following this list of top site seeing locations, you will just want to make sure you come back for more year after year.
