Traveling to Brazil with Children

If you are planning a trip to Brazil with your children you will need to take a few extra precautions. Due to the large bustling cities there is a high crime rate in the country, mostly due to robberies. With the high crime rate you will want to do everything in your power to keep your children and your kids safe, not only while traveling to the country but in the country as well.

Before traveling to Brazil you will need to renew your passport and obtain a travel visa for the country. U.S. citizens need a visa, but citizens from most European countries will not need one. This is in rebuttal to the United States requiring all citizens from Brazil to obtain a visa.

Leave any and all valuables back at home. This includes any iPods, MP3 players or jewelry. If you plan on taking bike rides or strolls in the country you will just need to accept listening to the sound of the country instead of your favorite music. Although your children may not appreciate having their favorite electronics taken away, the withdrawal is sure to pass after only a few days.

Avoid traveling throughout the country on a bike. This can be extremely dangerous because most drivers in the country do not respect an individual on a bike. In addition, riding a bike through the hectic streets of the major cities can be stressful, so save your child the headache and trouble by steering clear of this.

Ride the bus system for long distance travel in the country. This is the best way to get from city to city, and if your willing to pay an extra dollar or two you can upgrade to first class where your seats will be large and comfortable.

Walk away from tourist destinations when hailing a taxi. This is because in the tourist areas a taxi driver will charge you more. The only time you should actually call for a taxi in this area is at night. This will be a good way to get around with your children through the inner workings of the city.
