Choosing transportation to Ketchikan Alaska is limited to traveling by air or water. There are no roadways or bridges to Ketchikan. Local residents, tourists and those moving to Ketchikan can customize travel by airplane, cruise ship, ferry, or floatplane. In addition, travelers arrive to Ketchikan by inter-island ferry service or private vessel. Each form of transportation is unique and has purpose to those traveling to Ketchikan. Traveling to Ketchikan Alaska by Airplane
Flying into Ketchikan Alaska is a 90 minute flight departing Seattle Washington. Flights to and from Ketchikan are provided by Alaska Airlines. Visitors flying into Ketchikan will fly into Ketchikan International Airport. The airport is located on Gravina Island west of Ketchikan.

Passengers must take a seven minute ferry ride across the Tongass Narrows to get to Ketchikan. Airport shuttle vans are provided by some of the Inns and Motels. Although, shuttle service can be misleading, be sure to call your accommodations in advance to see if this service is provided for your arrival. The airport does provide carts to haul your luggage on and off the ferry for a small fee.

There are a couple taxi services that provide transportation around Ketchikan. There will be a couple waiting to greet passengers after disembarking the ferry.

Traveling to Ketchikan Alaska by Cruise Ship
Cruise ships are popular choice. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come into the Port of Ketchikan each year. This is a great way to experience Ketchikan for a short visit. Though a cruise line passengers can book Ketchikan tours by horse, classic cars, boat or plane, be sure to check what activities can be booked with your cruise line. Ketchikan is a very welcoming with activities for the enthusiast.

Traveling to Ketchikan Alaska by Ferry
The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) provides a fleet of ferries connecting Ketchikan with the lower 48 states and Canada. These ferries range from day boats to full-service vessels. Passengers who choose a full service vessel can be accommodated with a stateroom, food and vehicle transport. The ferry trip out of Bellingham Washington will take 36 hours. This scenic trip through Alaska's inside passage is highly recommended by many fellow Alaskans and others lucky enough to experience it for themselves.

Traveling to Ketchikan Alaska by Floatplane
Once in the Southeastern Alaska area of service, visitors can fly into Ketchikan or other near by communities. Floatplanes offer charters, scheduled flights to nearby communities in Southeast Alaska, tours and packages for Ketchikan visitors.

    This sounds fascinating-the closest I have gotten to Alaska is living on Whidbey Island-not too far from Seattle Washington.
