Traveling with a Pet

Sunshine Red
If you have planned a long road trip and are taking your pet with you, there are some things that you should do before taking your pet along for the ride to make it a pleasant experience for everyone. Some pets don't adjust well to changes in their diet and food or their routine. With some prepration you can keep your dog from becoming stressed and ruining the trip for everyone.

When you are taking your pet on a vacation with you, there are several things that you will want to take of theirs. They really are like little kids, they like they're comfort items around them especially when they are away from home.

1. Blankets or a favorite toy that they always play with. If your pet sleeps with a favorite blanket you will want to pack it.

2. Water from home. Different water from different locations will upset their stomach and could give them diarrhea.. This is the last thing that you want on a long car ride. Plus if you stop along the way, you always have water for them in the vehicle.

3. Their dog food that they eat all the time. This is not to time to change their diets. Don't forget to pack their food and water bowls to feed them out of.

4. Rabies tags should be worn all the time by the pets. You don't want to take a chance of being far away from home and have to prove that your dog's shots are up to take.

5. A copy of the shot records and medical records for the pet or pets that are along on your journey. Sometimes you may have to stop at a vet for a sick pet this is always helpful if you have the pet's records with you.

6. A kennel for precaution. If you are staying somewhere where they are not comfortable around pets this is always a good idea. They now have the collapsible kennels that stores easily in the vehicle.

Traveling with the pet can be a pleasant experience for everyone, but having a sick pet from changes in water or food isn't. Always pack their food and water and this will prevent many unnecessary unpleasant experiences.

Think safety when taking a pet. Most pets love going on trips and experiencing new things just like we do. It's always nice to have your best animal friend there to enjoy your journeys with you.

GREAT ideas. I wish I could travel with my cats, but they really spaz out in the car... My mom had a cat when she was a teen that would ride on her shoulders on road trips...haha!
