Traveling with your pet can be a stressful experience for both you and your pet. Most pet owners do not like the idea of their pet having to fly in the cargo area of the plane. Although the cargo area is pressurized, and most airlines attempt to make pets comfortable, the cargo area may be crowded, dark, cold, or even hot and stuffy with no fresh air.
Did you know that there is an airline especially designed for traveling with your pet?
Pet Airwaysis an airline that allows pets to fly in the main cabin of the plane. Pets can enjoy the fresh air of the climate controlled pressurized cabin, along with a pet flight attendant to take care of their needs during the flight.
When traveling with your pet on other airlines, your pet must wait in his airline kennel, along with the other cargo, to be loaded onto the plane. If the flight is delayed, this could turn into several hours. When your pet is flying with Pet Airways, he is taken for a walk to relieve himself before boarding the plane with the flight attendant.
Pet Airwayscurrently flies to the following U.S. airports:
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport located in Atlanta, Georgia
Baltimore/Washington International Airport located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, outside of Baltimore
Midway Airport located in Chicago, Illinois
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport located in Broomfield, Colorado, outside of Denver
Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Hawthorne Municipal Airport/Los Angeles Executive Airport located in Hawthorne, California, outside of Los Angeles
Republic Airport New York located in Farmingdale, New York, outside of New York City
Eppley Airfield located in Omaha, Nebraska
Falcon Field located in Mesa, Arizona, outside of Phoenix
Pet Airways hopes to add new destinations in the near future.
When traveling with your pet, the cost of flying your pet with other airlines can range from $70 to $275. Air fares on Pet Airways depend on the destination and the size of your pet. For example, the cost of a small pet flying from New York to Chicago would be $199.
Although Pet Airways may be the solution for you when traveling with your pet, there is one disadvantage. Pet Airways does not allow pet owners to fly with their pets; this airline is for pets only. Pet owners must make their own accommodations with a regular airline.

This is such a good idea. I would never put a pet in the cargo hold. Too risky.
This is a very good article, Sunshine!!
When we moved from Boston to Florida, I took a plane ride while hubby, son and dog Rosie drove down in the car..No way would we subject a 100lb dog to the airlines.
