Shoes - Although this sounds pretty basic, you would be surprised at how poor, worn out running shoes can have a detrimental effect on your body. Things like toe and heel injuries as well as knee problems are all caused by shoes that have little to no shock absorption.
It is said that shoes should be replaced after running 500 miles. The key here is to get a good quality pair of running/workout shoes. You will avoid most injuries right here, let alone be much more comfortable.
Overdoing It - Another common cause of injury issues is trying to do too much too soon. This includes trying to walk/run too fast or trying to go for longer distances than your body is prepped for.
The key here is to start slow and gradually build up to higher speeds and longer distances as the weeks and months go by.
Get Warmed Up First - Here is one that you see a lot of people skip over, but one that can cause a multitude of injuries, from hamstrings to calves and others.
Always warm up before starting your exercise routine, whether on a treadmill or any equipment. It should just become part of your workout. Also, don't overlook a cool-down after every workout. It is just as critical.
These are just a few causes of treadmill injuries and ways to prevent them. If you will follow them you will reduce or eliminate potential injuries and have a much better workout.
