The fitness resolutions are generally made during the beginning of the year where people promise to lose from weight. But before we discuss further, you should know what a pound is. Nutritionists say that a pound of body fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories. But burning off those calories isn't as easy as it looks. In a general term pound is a unit of measurement but in this case it is referred to as body fat. People often say that they have lost certain amount of pounds after dieting. But the fact is that they often lose body water rather than any body fat.

If you notice that you have lost five pounds in five days only; then be sure that you have lost a certain amount of body water along with body fat. Loss of body water can make your body weight fluctuate several times a day. Each body has individualistic setup and looses weight accordingly. But certainly there are few general rules, which can be followed. Men tend to lose weight faster than women. As men burn more calories, they lose the pound faster. Types of exercises also vary from person to person. Not all individuals respond equally to a certain exercise nor can all exercises be applied on all individuals. Nowadays all the local gyms use technological-advanced instruments to determine how many calories a person needs to burn depending on his height and weight.

The goal set by you should be realistic. Loosing half to a pound per week is good. Slowly build up your strength to do more exercises to burn more calories. You can even try to reduce your calorie intake. Fitness experts recommend a routine well combined of aerobic activities, resistance training and stretching. But if you don't maintain a proper diet, or over-exercise, you will suffer.

Most of the Americans prefer to do things in the easiest way. Leave the remote and go out for a stroll after lunch. A survey shows that only ten percent of the Americans do exercises regularly while more than 75% of them are totally physically inactive. It is not at all easy to lose weight. If a 150 pound woman has just consumed a double layer slice of a chocolate coke (say of 356 calories), she would need to walk for 68 minutes or jog for 18 minutes just to burn off the consumed calorie. Some medicines can also lead to weight loss. Losing weight is not a child's play. You need hard work, motivation and percent commitment. You have to follow a planned lifestyle and should have an interest and intention to take care of one's own health.

The fitness exercise should be fun so that you feel like doing it every-day and enjoy it. Exercise well and skip junk foods and drinks. Develop healthy habit to make yourself healthier.
