One these places is right here in the US. It is Florida. Around Vero Beach Florida, finds have dated back as far as the late 1600s. In 1964 it was estimated that the treasure in Florida, amounts to a cool $165 million.
The majority of all buried treasure in Florida is the work of pirates. Florida has survived through hundreds of hurricanes in the past four centuries, but many ships around her have not. From the year 1500 to 1960, hurricanes have sunk their quota of treasure-laden ships. These wrecked ships represent all nations, but the majority of them are Spanish galleons. They carried gold and silver from the New World to the Old, only to have their contents deposited on some jagged reef off Florida. Many gold doubloons and pieces-of-eight are awaiting a lucky finder on the Florida reefs. It is this type of treasure most people go after.
According to treasure lore.com, some areas to look for treasure include:
After tropical storms, Spanish coins have been washing up on the beach at Stump Pass, just SW of Grove City. Spanish gold coins were found on the beach at Longboat Key near Sarasota. Boca Raton, located south of Palm Beach, is the site of two separate treasures. Blackbeard buried $2,000 in casks near the Boca Raton Inlet.. DeLeon Springs is the location of a treasure chest lost by unknown persons. The Florida Everglades is the area of a well documented lost treasure. Of Course the Florida Keys, is the best place to find treasure, because of the Spanish shipwrecks, you can literally walk on a beach and find coins any day there.
Mel fisher, was a treasure hunter, who dedicated most his life looking for Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita, ship wrecks, and before he died he did find them. According to the melfisher.com website
Mel Fisher, a dreamer, a visionary, a legend and most importantly, the World's Greatest Treasure Hunter! Mel Fisher did what many have not - he realized his dream during his lifetime. Everyday he insisted, "Today's the Day"! His mantra continues to inspire the search for the rest of the treasure from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita, the Spanish galleons that sank during a hurricane on September 6, 1622, near Key West, Florida. Mel Fisher's legacy of optimism, perseverance and accomplishments are inspirations he leaves for us all. His motto of "Today's The Day" has for many, transcended treasure hunting and become a euphemism for motivating people into believing in themselves.
Often when Mel Fisher was asked why he did it, he would simply reply "For the fun, the romance and the adventure". What he modestly meant was that he believed in a dream, the American Dream!
There are things to consider when you want to hunt for treasure, they include:
metal detector selection, choosing the best areas to search. Various shipwreck searching and treasure hunting techniques on sea and land. Library and internet research techniques and other simple ways to increase the chances of discovering shipwrecks and treasures. Many choose to just invest with a company, then to do all this.
Investing with Mel Fisher, many people have became very rich. Weather you want to do alone or invest and go with a company like Mel fisher treasure hunting can be rewarding.

ive been at metal detecting 35 yrs, i could write a book on finds and experiences but get a detector and go for it it not how much you find its the challenge of beating the odds when you do find something valuable
After you find a coin that's been exposed to salt water how do you clean it?
Great story, I have asked for a metal detector for 2 years now, birthdays, mothers day, Christmas, and any other time I thought someone might get me a gift. I would love to hunt for treasure. I guess my family thinks I am kidding becuase they still I still don't have one.
I have Scuba dived around the Sebastion Inlet where a lare trease fleet went down in 1715. Found nothing but had fun. Great article.
