Treasure Island: A Review of Our Las Vegas Stay

Lisa B.
It was time again for our annual trip to Las Vegas and I couldn't be happier. There was nothing I loved more than planning and taking a vacation. We wanted to try something a little different this time and after much debate, finally agreed on Treasure Island. We were able to get an awesome deal through them (2 people, 3 nights. and roundtrip airfare..$569 after taxes), that also played a huge part in our decision.

We arrived at Treasure Island about 12:00pm on Monday, December 11th. And we were ready to check in. I had been forewarned about lengthy check-in lines by previous patrons of the hotel. I must say, they were completely on target. Although the line did not appear to be extremely long, it was still moving incredibly slow. When we finally reached the counter, we discovered why. There were a ton of questions needing to be answered..90% of which were answered when the reservation was made, two months ago. This place was in dire need of a better check-in system. Another thing, there were no coupons or discounts offered to guests. I was more than a little disappointed with this. Every other hotel I have stayed at in Vegas had given us a coupon book upon check-in. Oh well. After we got our room keys we were ready to go check out the room.

The room was located on the 10th floor and was just your standard room, we did not go with a suite upgrade. However, we were still pleasantly surprised with the room. Treasure Island had recently upgraded all of the beds through out the entire hotel. And let me tell you, they are comfy. As soon as arriving in the room I laid down on the bed to check it out, took a lot of pleading from my husband for me to finally get back up. When booking, we generally opt for the 2 queen beds as opposed to the 1 king-sized so that we could have the extra pillows and blankets. Here, we didn't need to do that. It really was not necessary. They were that good. The room also came equipped with a plasma TV, ionic ceramic blow dryer, a ton of goodies from the on-site spa, WET and my personal favorite, a pull-out magnification mirror in the bathroom. I thought that was a nice touch. One that most women will definitely appreciate.

Now that we were all settled in to the room, it was time to check this place out. Once downstairs, we discovered that The Sirens of TI, one of Treasure Island's biggest draws, was closed for maintenance. Bummer. That's definitely something for people staying at TI between Nov 20-Dec 21 to take into consideration, because apparently it is yearly scheduled maintenance. After gambling for a while, with no luck, we were starting to get a little hungry so we found the buffet, Dishes. When we got there we found that it was $20 a person, kinda steep. Wow, I sure do wish there would have been a coupon given to us at check in. But we were already there and we were hungry so we went for it, anyway. And did not regret it for a second. It was so good, by far the best buffet we've had in Vegas. They have everything and anything you can think of. We were kind of biased towards the chocolate covered strawberries and freshly-made cotton candy.

I can not comment on the quality of the room or maid service. We always requested to not have the room serviced. However, there were notes left on the door each day acknowledging our request. Still, when we passed housekeeping in the hall she was extremely friendly and double checked to make sure everything in the room was to our satisfaction. In fact, all of the employees were very nice and personable.

One other thing that I feel I had to comment on is: Anyone who has ever been to Vegas knows that one of the most important aspect of any hotel is the location. I really don't think the location of Treasure Island can be beat. You end up being right between Mirage, Venetian, Wynn and Fashion Show Mall. Better yet, you get the prime location without paying the same high rates as its neighbors. Win/Win, right?

All-in-all I would recommend this hotel to anyone who was planning a vacation to Vegas. Treasure Island is a nearly perfect hotel (Can not forget the painstaking task of checking in and out). Great location, great food and an even better value.
