Treasurydirect.gov is the website where you can find out whether you have lost or forgotten bonds. With holidays around the corner, you may want to check out Treasurydirect.gov to see if you have any money coming to you from Uncle Sam.

Treasurydirect.gov reveals whether you have Series E savings bonds. You simply type your social security number in the Treasury Hunt to see if you have money waiting.

Currently it is estimated the United States Treasury owes up to $17 billion in unredeemed Series E savings bonds. These bonds were sold from 1941 to 1980 and you can see if you have one or more at Treasurydirect.gov.

Parade reports you can use Treasurydirect.gov to search for bonds purchased after 1973. Earlier bonds are recorded on microfilm and must be manually searched by personnel at the Bureau of Public Debt.

You'll find a wealth of information at Treasurydirect.gov about treasury bills, notes, bonds and even using your income tax refund to save by buying U.S. Savings Bonds. You might even discover you already have a few Series E savings bonds to cash out at Treasurydirect.gov, so check it out!
