When choosing treats for your trick-or-treaters, think logically. Unfortuntaly, nowdays, you can not prepare homemade treats for children and expect their parents to allow them to keep them. Most parents will throw away any homemeade treats that their children receive because of the risk of poison or other harmful substances that could have been put in the goodies. Steer clear of any homemade cookies, cupcakes or other goodies. If you wish to hand out cookies, purchase cookies that are sealed in packages purchased from the store. You can probably find candy coated or caramel apples in the stores as well if that is a treat that you wish to give to the children as they trick-or-treat in your area.
Kids love McDonald's, Wendy's and other fast food restaurants. Check with your local food chains to see if they offer coupons for free kids meal that you can purchase in bulk. Hand out the coupons as the children come around knocking at your door. You can also put together a bag of tokens for Chuck E Cheese, Celebration Station, putt putt or another local amusement center for children. Kids of all ages would enjoy that.
Purchase some miniature notebooks and Halloween themed pencils and tie together with orange and black curling ribbon for the trick-or-treaters. The small canisters of play-doh make great treats as well. A Halloween coloring book or reading book would also make a nice treat for the costumed kids. Most party stores or Oriental Trading will also have small toys that would make the perfect bag stuffer for Halloween. Vampire teeth, funky glasses and other spooky items also make nice variations from the typical Snicker bars and M&m's.
