Treat Your Mom This Mother's Day

Whatever your Mom likes to do, there is an assortment of activities to enjoy this Mother's Day. First of all, Winston-Salem Community Band will be performing Sunday May 10, 2009 from 6:30 until 7:30 pm at Miller Park Amphitheater which is located on Queen Street near Moore School.

A second option is to attend the Salem College Dance Company Spring Concert which will be at the Salem Fine Arts Center of Salem College. There will be an admission charged at the door. Performances are Saturday May 9th at 7 pm and Sunday May 10th at 2 pm. For more details visit www.salem.edu

Thirdly if you enjoy jazz, join the Grey Panthers for a live jazz performance on Sunday May t0th at Milner's American Southern at 630 South Stratford Road. There is no admission for this event and it is from 6:30 until 9:30 pm. More information is available at www.milnerfood.com

For another no cost option, consider an exhibition of antique chairs from the MESDA collection. Southern Seats: Turned Chairs in the American South will be free to the public from 1 - 4:30pm on Mother's Day. Check out neigboring Pilot Mountain NC; just a short trip up Highway 52 North if your mother likes festivals packed with music, good food, crafts and fun. Sponsored by the Pilot Mountain Civc Club, the annual Pilot Mountain Mayfest will be held May 8-10, in downtown Pilot Mountain. For a little bit longer drive, take your Mom to the NC Zoo where she will enjoy free admission on Mother's Day. The NC Zoo features thousands of animals, birds, and reptiles. Wear comfy shoes and get close to nature with your Mother.

Heading north from Winston-Salem, you can reach the Blue Ridge Parkway in less than an hour, to enjoy a scenic drive where the blossoms will delight her eyes. You can also head south to Spencer NC to visit the NC Transportation Museum.

There are countless activities and events that are at minimal or no cost to share with your mothers. Many restaurants are also offering discounted or free meals for the Moms in your party. Take time to share your love and gratitude with your Mothers by spending time with them. Whatever you choose to do, give your Mom a hug first.
