Treat Razor Burn in Your Bikini Area

Abby Willow
Razor burn in your bikini area is irritating and painful- and hard to get rid of. Aside just not shaving at all, what can you do to prevent and treat razor burn "down there"? Well, it's easier said than done, but there are ways to treat existing razor burn, make the redness and irritation fade, and prevent razor burn from happening again. Here are some tips:

When you shave, use a shave gel rather than a shave cream to prevent clogging your hair follicles, so they don't grow in sideways or back into the skin, creating razor burn and nasty bumps in the first place. Or shave with just water so you have nothing clogging those follicles in the first place while still having a close shave.

Avoid shaving every single day. Try to shave your bikini area every other day to give existing razor burn time to heal, and prevent irritating the skin. Also, try not to shave over and over the same area, which irritates the skin and helps cause razor burn. Use a fresh, clean razor every time you shave for a close cut the first time.

Shave in the direction of the hair growth, not against it, so you avoid pulling on the hair follicles or causing the stubble to grow back into the skin, which is where those little red bumps get caused. If you shave with the hair instead of against it, you decrease the likelihood of getting razor burn in the first place, and you irritate your skin less.

Treat razor burn by putting aloe vera or hydrocortizone cream on the existing razor burn and refraining from wearing tight underwear or clothing that restricts air and causes friction. Wear cotton, breathable underwear to prevent moisture from irritating freshly shaved skin, and avoid scratching or rubbing the razor burn as it heals.

The best way to treat razor burn is to prevent it in the first place. The proper shaving tools are key, and if you have razor burn already, a dab of aloe vera can make your skin look and feel good as new and soft and smooth in no time!
