One of the best things about a spa is the atmosphere. So take some time to create a soothing atmosphere for yourself. Clear out the extra clutter. Spray a yummy fragrance in the air. Put on some music that you like. Light some candles to make a lovely glow. Do everything you can to create a pleasing atmosphere that makes you want to relax on every level. You don't have to clean the house from top to bottom in order to accomplish this, but you might want to clean the bathroom - as most spa treatments are easiest to give yourself in the bathroom. You might want to buy yourself a new fluffy towel (not a big expense) to treat yourself on this spa day. Do some brainstorming and think about what will make a soothing atmosphere for you on every level.
Once you have thought about the atmosphere, it is time to think about what type of treatments you would like to give yourself. There are so many things you can do. Hint - this is not the time to tweeze your eyebrows. Do something that feels relaxing and makes you feel pretty. This is the time for a facial, a body scrub, a pedicure. Or why not give yourself all three! You are only limited by how much time you have and what you feel you can do. Make a list of the beauty treatments that you would like to give yourself.
Many of the beauty treatments that women have in spas are ones you can do at home. You could even ask a loved one to give you a massage. Make the massage even better by having them use scented lotion or massage oil. Scent is a very powerful sense that we have and it will make you relax even more. You can always trade massages with someone, and give them a massage for their at-home spa day.
Facials are a great at-home beauty treatment. Begin by steaming your pores with hot water. You can usually do this easily by turning on your shower and sitting in the hot steam, or by turning on the hot water faucet in your sink and then holding a towel over your head for a few minutes. There are many different types of facials that you can find. An at-home spa day is a great time to try a new product and many facial products offer sample sized products where you can try them for one or two times. Follow whatever directions the facial gives you, for best results.
A manicure or a pedicure is also a great treatment. Begin by removing your old nailpolish and trimming your nails. Then file your nails to the shape that you want, round or square. Then add a base coat and then your colored polish. Finish with a top coat. If you are doing other spa treatments you may wish to end with your manicure or pedicure.
Body scrubs are a great treatment. You can also make your own body scrubs using raw sugar or sea salt. The book Natural Beauty for All Seasons by Janice Cox has lots of different natural beauty recipes for different beauty treatments. This is a great book to read and you can learn all about different facials and body scrubs that you can make for an at-home spa day.
Finally, remember to give yourself other indulgences on your spa day. Have a good book to read while your nailpolish or facial dries. Have a healthy snack on hand. Drink ginger tea or lemon water, both are often served at spas. Ginger tea is good if you have a cold, it will often make you feel a little warm and energized. Water with lemon is a gentle detox for your liver and for your skin.
Enjoy your at-home spa day beautiful!
