Dry itchy skin in the winter time is one of the worst feelings that you can have as you travel through the cold winter weather. There are some things that you can do to prevent dry, itchy and irritating skin this winter. One of the things that you can do to prevent dry skin is buying a humidifier; these can be found in most general retail stores and drug stores. What most people don't know is that our home and office heaters dry out the air when we use them during the winter time. To prevent this from happening an inexpensive humidifier can bring the moisture level up in your home if you cannot afford a humidifier a simple bowl of water can also do the trick depending on how big the room is.

Another way to prevent dry skin during the winter months is to take warm showers instead of hot showers. While a hot shower in the morning during a cold winter sounds really good it's not good to expose your skin to hot water because it dries your skin out and it makes your hair dull and flaky. Hot showers also make your skin more itchy and flaky.

A more obvious way to prevent dry skin from happening to you during the winter time is to use a moisturizer, this can help keep your skin moist and keep you feeling comfortable while traveling through the winter cold which can be brutal depending on where you live. The best time to moisturize your skin is when get right out of the shower because this is when your skin is most naturally moist. What the moisturizer does is lock in the moisture from the shower that you just took. Some people have extremely dry skin and moisturizing one day will not do the trick so instead of doing it once a day do it once in the morning after you shower and before you go bed.

Drinking water is one of the key ingredients to keeping your skin from becoming dry and irritated during the winter time. Drinking lots of water is important during any time of the year because it helps keep us healthy. Drinking water keeps our skin moist which is something most people don't know. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day can go a long way and help you keep your skin from being dry.

Lastly a balanced and nutritious diet is important in keeping your skin from becoming dry. Food with oils and fats will help you keep your skin moisturized. Some healthy fats and oils include avocado, nuts, olive oil and flaxseed oil.

These few things can go a long way in preventing your skin from being dry, irritated and flaky during the winter time. So remember to humidify, take warm showers, moisturize, drink lots of water and keep a clean and balanced diet and you won't have to worry about dry skin during the winter season.
