Treating Menopause Without Prescription Medications

Once we realize what is happening, Many of us rush off to the Doctor for help. Usually after some testing you are prescribed some sort of hormone replacement therapy. But not all of us choose to go this route. I was one of those women that felt homeopathic was the way to go. So to the trusted computer I went and a whole new world opened up right before my eyes. The discovery of vitamins, minerals, and herb supplements ran on page after page. Every one of us has a different make up so to find the right combination of vitamins may take some time, but it is worth the wait once you find it.

For instance, I started out with some St. Johns Wort (moodiness and depression), Calcium with Vitamin D (stronger bones and the D helps it absorb more), Vitamin E, Flaxseed Oil , Vitamin B complex and Soy capsules. This was to reduce the night sweats and irritability and keep the body supplied with the necessary nutrients to stay healthy while going through this. The side affects that can come from the St. Johns Wort are as follows, Increased sensitivity to sunlight, dizziness, dry mouth, sexual dysfunction and more. So I got rid of that one and re laced it with Black Cohosh which is used to treat night sweats and other symptoms of menopause. This group seemed to be doing well for me but when I had to go in for some minor surgery, I was asked not to take the Black Cohosh for a period of one week before the surgery because the supplement can mess with your blood pressure. So I discontinued it and after the surgery I switched to what I now take and it works beautifully for me. It is this: Flaxseed Oil (1000 mg 1 tablet 3 times a day), Evening Primrose oil (1000 mg 1 tablet 3 times a day), Soy Isoflavones (40 mg 2 tablets a day) and Calcium with Vitamin D (600 mg 2 tablets a day)

Flaxseed Oil is used for Hot Flashes and Breast Pain. Flaxseed comes from the flax plant. This plant grows in Canada and the northwestern United States. The oil is then derived from the seeds. Some studies have found that an ingredient called alpha-linolenic acid may benefit some people with heart disease as well.

Evening Primrose Oil is used for breast pain and Menopausal symptoms. It is also used for other conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer and Diabetes. It is derived from the seeds of the evening Primrose plant.

Soy Isoflavones are used to treat many things including Menopause, High Cholesterol, Osteoporosis, Memory, Hot Flashes and high blood pressure. Soy is from the pea family and the seeds from the soy plant contain Isoflavones (similar to the female hormone Estrogen)

Calcium with Vitamin D is great for the bones and the Vitamin D helps it absorb better. Thus the benefits are stronger bones and help with osteoporosis.

If you take a daily vitamin and eat well you may not need to take the additional Vitamin B tablets. As with anything else, to much of a good thing can be bad for you.

Vitamin B complex is a mixture of all the B Vitamins. They are B1 (Thiamine), B2(Riboflan),Used for energy B3, (Niacin) Skin ,Nerves and digestion.B5 (Panothetic Acid) Normal growth development, B6 (pyridoxine) helps break down protein. B7 (biotin) Helps the body make hormones. B9 (Folic Acid) Important for making red blood cells. B12 ( Combalamin) Helps with nervous system and growth and helps with the use of folic acid. Without your B vitamins you can experience any of the following, Anemia, Tiredness, loss of appetite, depression, muscle cramps, just to name a few.

You may also want to check in with your Doctor and let him know what you are taking and how it is working for you. My doctor has been with me every step of the way through this and completely understands why I did not want to do the hormone therapy, and that is this, Menopause is a natural cycle of life and therefore needs to be treated naturally if at all possible.
