Treating and Preventing Acne on the Back

Doc Watson
Often a touchy subject and with reason, acne can be a tough condition to deal with. Back acne is no exception. Acne in both places usually begins its often ruthless visit to the body near the time of puberty and in some cases, sticks around for many years to come. Acne itself is a condition in which the body produces excess oil which in turn makes pores and hair follicles clog up causing infection. (aka zits, pimples, black/white heads, etc.) It is made worse when one regularly eats oily foods or is often under a lot of stress. It can also be caused by heavy sweating and can be inherited as a gene.

Back acne can be even worse and harder to treat than acne on the face due to clothes irritating the skin and the pores which are already larger and more active. The back also can sweat much more heavily causing infection to be much more likely.

However, one can take a few steps to handle to problem. Depending on the severity of the condition, there are various treatment methods. For milder cases, body acne medication or wash which is very similar to face wash can be purchased. But, if you have acne in the form of cysts on the body, seeing a dermatologist is the way to go.

As far as the less serious cases go, preventing back acne can be done by keeping the skin clear which prevents the vicious cycle from starting over. How do you do this? Well, a first and dire step that can be taken is using a skin cleansing product that is either a designated acne body wash, or a body wash that will absorb the excess oil from the body. It's recommended to look for a wash containing a Salicylic Acid formula. Like acne face washes, this is an effective acne treatment. Ultimately, the removal of oil makes removal of dirt and dead skin easier which just add to the problem.

Once the lathered wash has been rinsed off and you've been thoroughly dried off, applying a none-oily moisturizing lotion or cream will help settle the skin making it smoother, healthier, stronger and less susceptible to irritation or infection. Having a family member or friend aid you in doing this will ensure you get all of the hard to reach places, which of course makes the time you spend on all this worth the while.

Simply doing all of this 3-4 time a week will almost surely give you positive results in treating back acne in no more than two months. Some other factors you'll need to try and keep control of are your stress level and diet. Stress and fatty or oily foods often cause or certainly worsen acne anywhere. Limiting stress as much as you can will help you all the more. Walking, jogging, aerobics are all physical ways of relieving stress that don't cause too much sweating and can be done inside. Eating fruit and vegetables and drinking water often instead of carbonated, and sugary drinks is another key step in having clear skin.
