The common cold can be a very uncomfortable illness to have to go through. We all get a cold at one time or another. A cold can make you feel tired and run down. A cold can make our throat hurt and our noses stuffy. A cold can bring on a fever that makes us chilled at times and hot and sweaty at other times. Colds can be a nasty thing to have to deal with. Here are some ideas to help you get through the common cold.

A good lunch for the person with a cold is a good bowl of home made chicken soup. Chicken soup can help you feel better when we are suffering with a cold. Chicken soup that is steaming hot and has some extra garlic in it is even better to help you feel better. You should always feed a cold and starve a fever when you have a cold and chicken soup can help feed the cold.

If you want a sandwich with your bowl of chicken soup then add some raw onion and some horseradish. Some people believe that a sandwich with raw onion and horseradish mustard on it will help to prevent colds. Avoid having cheese on your sandwich. Any dairy products are bad to have with a cold since they promote the development of mucus. When you have a cold you don't need any more mucus.

If you have a soar throat you can suck on a garlic clove. It can be hard to suck on garlic but it helps a soar throat. You can eat some parsley after you suck on the garlic to clean your breath of the smell of garlic.

Drink plenty of water when you have a cold to keep your body hydrated. Hot water with some lemon and honey mixed in it can help relieve a cough and it is good for the throat. The lemon helps to clear your throat of mucus and the honey coats your throat. Hot honey and lemon water is a tasty drink and you can actually start to crave it once you start to drink it.

When you have a cold keep yourself warm and stay out of drafts. Sitting under a nice blanket and watching some television can help you feel pampered and it will also keep you warm. When you have a cold don't let yourself get chilled because your cold can get worse if you get chilled. Try to stay indoors and rest if you can.
