Tree of Life

Wayne Howard

Each small bit of life that falls at autumn's frost
A thousand golden leaves cascading down,
A thousand tiny deaths until the whole is lost.

Trunk and root, how fares the tree?
Frozen naked branches groping to the skies
Winter's death seems so complete
Yet with spring new life and leaves arise.
