Trek Mountain Bike Company is known throughout the world for its high-quality bikes and cutting edge technology. Although Trek is currently one of the most famous mountain bike companies in the world, the company was not always so well-known. Trek was born in 1976 in a rented barn in Waterloo, Wisconsin. When the company opened its doors, it boasted five employees. Just one year later, in 1977, Trek won its first dealer, when Penn Cycle in Minneapolis, Minnesota, agreed to market the company's bikes. By 1980, Trek had grown so much that it had run out of room in its rented barn facility, and Trek moved into a new facility in downtown Waterloo, Wisconsin. Trek continued to strive for growth and development.

By 1982, Trek added its first road racing bikes to its product line. In 1983, Trek designer Tim Isaac created the 850, which would become a popular mountain bike. In 1989, Trek went global when it opened its first international subsidiaries in Great Britain and Germany. In 1990, Trek introduced its first line of children's bikes. In 1997, the famous cyclist Lance Armstrong signed on with Trek and used the famous bikes in the sport. Armstrong went on to win victory and fame in the sport, including his 1999 win of the Tour de France on Trek's production 5200. In 2002, Tim DeBoom rides a Trek to victory at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Today, Trek is an internationally known company, and Trek bicycles are sold in over 90 countries worldwide.

Although Trek has won fame and success thanks to its high-quality bicycles, the company has never forgotten the reason it opened its doors. Trek states on its website, www.trekbikes.com, that it is "committed to changing lives through cycling." Trek has accomplished this goal by providing consumers throughout the entire world with innovative products. The company boasts exceptional technology and bicycle friendly development. The company also prides itself on its excellent customer focus and care.

Trek's website explains that "the bicycle is a simple solution to some of the world's most complicated problems." One World, Two WheelsSM is explains one of the company's missions, to help the world become more receptive to biking as a way of life.

Trek's website explains that biking is the solution to obesity, traffic congestions and environmental issues. Trek has worked through its One World, Two Wheels campaign to encourage people to use bicycles not only for recreation and sport, but also for transportation. Trek has committed $1.6 million to support the League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Friendly Community program, and to fund trail development with the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

Trek has also worked to encourage biking within local communities, by encouraging its retail dealers to advocate biking within their communities. Trek has supplied its dealers with materials and has even hired a full-time advocacy director to support the effort. Trek has set definite goals for its One World, Two Wheels campaign; the company hopes to increase US bicycle trips by 5% compared to the 1% expected by 2017. Biking enthusiasts can also get involved in Trek's campaign by contacting their local Trek dealer.

In addition to its excellent mission and goals, Trek prides itself on its technology and cutting edge designs. Trek bicycles feature sturdy yet lightweight frames and offer biking enthusiasts high performance. Trek's bicycles feature OCLV Carbon and Alpha Aluminum to create a high-quality product. Trek also employs its Advanced Concept Group, which is dedicated solely to developing advanced bicycle design and technology. The group tests new products to ensure that consumers will be offered the best and most cutting edge designs available today.

Trek also offers its customers excellent customer support. Customers can seek assistance from Trek in a number of ways, by contacting the dealer, by visiting Trek's website, or by providing Trek with feedback on its website. Customers can also register their bicycle or look for their bicycle manual online at Trek's website.

Had a great Trek when they first came out with the gear switching on the hand grips rather than as a toggle. Some idiot stole the thing about two months later. Damn I miss that (expensive) bike! Great bikes Trek are.
