Trends for Resort 2010

When we think of resort, we think of travels to exotic places, perhaps sailing through the Mediterranean or walking along the board walk of St. Tropez. It's no surprise then that fashion trends for Resort 2010 would reflect those same influences.

This year resort took a trip to Africa, with earth toned fabrics, safari shorts and deconstructed silhouettes. Alberta Ferretti lowered her price points for this season, considering the economic times, and showed prints reminiscent of a gorgeous sunset. She also featured safari suits and suede jackets with tribal influenced embroidery. Tory Burch brought out the inner traveler in each city girl with feminine little jackets over slouchy shorts, while making good use of Khakis, as well incorporating plenty of suede and leather. However it was Yves Saint Laurent, who showed full African interpretations with belted suiting, printed chiffons, even harem pants and topped off each model with wrapped heads.

At Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs trimmed his bags and shoes with rope details and paired them with bikinis and mini dresses in nautical stripes as did CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Alexander Wang with his nautical striped sweaters and fisherman vests almost referencing a trip to the Riviera. Paris was the influence behind Oscar De La Renta's collection, with tweed-like suits and matching berets.

A scuba movement has begun for Cruise 2010, and BCBG showed strong scuba influences with zips, straps and mesh details on dresses. Max and Lubov also used colors inspired by the seas with a strong blue and white color palette, as well as Behnaz Sarafpour with her many hues of blue. But it was Andreas Melbostad for Phi who showed both scuba and biker influence with exposed zippers and metallic blues against heavy black, while showing outfits that even resembled a wetsuit.
