Trendy Hair Styles and Cuts - Fall 2009

Janice Meyer
Long and short hairstyles are both quite trendy for fall 2009. The one I want, and am working on getting my hair long enough for, is called a bob. The bob comes in various styles and cuts.

The one I like is almost medium in length on the sides, and tapers up and shorter in the back. In the center of the nape in the back, a slightly shorter cut about one-half - one inch blends in with the longer sides. I need a little more growth on the sides. I have seen this particular cut with sides down to the chin or longer. I would like mine to cover my ear lobes. I have also seen rather short sides - just enough to fit the style.

Another bob is the blunt cut all around, and length is usually short, but can be ear lobe to chin length. Most bobs, and even the medium and longer styles have bangs. The bangs are generally blunt cut on the shorter bobs, and longer at an angle on the long flowing hair. I like my bangs cut thin, leaving more volume on the sides, but I will see exactly how I want them when the sides grow longer.

The wedge is another style that can begin with rather short hair, and sides still are cut longer than the back. The extremely short layers are cut in the back, and chunky layers are cut in the front toward the ends. Textured layers on top of this cut will provide some volume for your crown. This style can be worn sleek, straight or tasseled by using a volume enhancer. A good volume enhancer is Aussie Sprunch. The product directions are simply: 'spritz this mist into damp hair as you style. It's just that easy.' Aussie products are made by Procter and Gamble.

The longer styles generally have bangs also. Often they blend into one side. Some women wear their hair in a curly style, or curls only toward the ends. Other styles have large waves that give the style more volume and interest. If you need more volume, there is another Aussie product called 'the 3-minute miracle.' It's a kind of cream that you work through your freshly-shampooed hair, leave it for three minutes and then rinse it out.

Layered cuts are great, and can give hair a look and feel of greater volume. Of course, this may depend on whether your hair is extremely fine and possibly thin, or thick and somewhat course. The medium or chin-length cut is a good one to have layered. There is another style for layered medium-length hair, which is called 'the bed head,' or 'messy on purpose.' This gives your hair the look of having just gotten out of bed. Tresemme has a hair spray that is a fine mist. It is never stiff or sticky and provides a long-lasting, natural-feel hold. This hair spray will work for any of these styles.
